Adoption campaigns

Every day is everything

We’re shining the spotlight on adoptive families from across England and sharing their stories of everyday life and the moments that matter most to them.

About this campaign

Every child needs and should have a permanent family and home, but too many children are spending too much of their childhood without one, or never having one at all.

Our new campaign shows that adoption isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being there and showing up for a child, every day.

Watch our short video, featuring adoptive families and some familiar faces sharing significant numbers behind their adoption stories.

Reasons to adopt

Key points

  • Currently, there are 3,010 children in England in need of a permanent family through adoption and just 1,400 approved adopters available.
  • Over the last five years, the number of children needing an adoptive family has increased by 52%, while the number of approved adopters available has fallen by 46%.
  • Children now spend an average of 646 days (nearly 2 years) without a permanent family — an increase of 20 days from last year.
  • New projections warn that by 2030, there may only be enough adopters for 13% of children who need a permanent family.

Featuring Paralympian and adoptee Ellie Simmonds

“I was adopted when I was just a few months old. Looking back, it was the everyday things that mattered most — those moments might seem ordinary, but they can shape a child’s future in extraordinary ways.”
