Adoption stories

Jack and Miguel

Jack and Miguel always dreamed of having children, and adoption helped them build the family they had imagined together.

Meet Jack and Miguel, who adopted two sons.

Jack and Miguel always knew they wanted children. Four years into their relationship, they began exploring adoption as a way to grow their family. After attending an information event, they threw themselves into the process and, ten months later, were matched with four-year-old Dylan in 2020. When the family later felt ready to welcome another child, they returned to adoption and were matched with one-year-old Leo in 2024.

The first night Dylan stayed with Jack and Miguel remains vivid in their memories. He called them “Daddy and Papa” for the first time before falling fast asleep. It was a profound moment for Jack and Miguel, as the responsibility of becoming parents suddenly felt very real. Dylan was already four and had a personality of his own, so the new family needed time to understand one another and find their rhythm.

Welcoming Leo brought a completely different experience. For the first time, Jack and Miguel were caring for a baby. Nappies, feeds and naps quickly took over their world, leaving both parents exhausted! Now aged ten and three, Dylan and Leo’s very different personalities are shining through. Dylan loves being creative, while Leo can usually be found bouncing off the walls and creating the kind of havoc that comes naturally to an energetic toddler.

Jack and Miguel believe it was meant to be that Dylan and Leo’s profiles were the first they saw during each adoption journey, and today, family life is wonderfully chaotic. Between school runs, dance parties after school and bedtime stories, Jack and Miguel have built the busy family life they always hoped for.

“There are no plans to stop at two children, and we’d love to welcome another child to be part of our family – with all the love and chaos that will bring!  We’ve always wanted this and are so thrilled that this is our lives now and forever.“

“Our journey with adoption has taught us so much about how different and varied people’s lives can be. You meet people from all walks of life along the way and it opens your mind in ways you never thought possible.“
